When Ben Brush won the Derby.
A quarter back behind the string, The entries made their starting spring, High bred Ulysses at the pole— With hope to hold it to the goal— And then Ben Eder, Brush and all; But gallant Brush came near a fall, When at the clang of starter's bell, The field went dashing down, pell mell; So First Mate set the rattling pace In that hot foot and famous race, When Ben Brush won the Derby.
